The Davidson Board of Commissioners may wish to adopt a resolution, as the Towns of Cornelius and Huntersville have recently done, requesting the Mecklenburg County Board of Commissioners continue priority funding of the Northern Regional Recreation Center, as articulated in the 2008 county bond referendum.
Timeline for Northern Regional Recreation Center:
• 2008 P&R Bond included Northern Regional Rec Center.
• 2008 Meck County P&R bonds approved by voters.
• Similar to 20 other P&R bond projects, project did not make the cut for FY15-18 CIP funding.
• 41 acre parcel of land on Old Statesville (border of Cornelius & Huntersville) purchased by county in 2013 for Northern Center. Towns approved location.
• New Meck County CIP ranking process to be completed in current FY for next round of funding for FY19 and beyond.
• Design work funded by Meck County BOC for Eastern Regional Rec Center. Location to be Eastway Community Park. 07/06/16
• Northern town advisory boards meet to develop joint resolution to fund North Meck Rec Center as top priority. 08/08/16
• Towns of Cornelius and Huntersville BOCs adopt resolution, asking County to keep North Meck Rec Center as top priority and to fund center design no later than FY18. 08/15/16 and 09/06/16, respectively.
